Sew Alpine
Sew Alpine is a home-grown, woman-owned small business that specializes in custom outdoor gear and repairs. Products are made with a strong climate-focused ethic, minimizing waste and reusing and recycling materials whenever possible.
Most Sew Alpine products are made to order and can all be custom-designed to fit the customer's unique style.
Hannah has always loved making things and being outside. She started sewing for a school project in elementary school and needed lots of practice to be able to make anything remotely functional. She first started climbing in middle school when her mom took her to a climbing gym and the two of them began learning the sport together. Hannah graduated with a BA in Ecology from Colorado College in 2014 and an unofficial degree in outdoor skills, which led her to work in outdoor education and mountain guiding for nearly a decade. After failing to thrive in the over-working culture of traditional office jobs, Hannah decided to start Sew Alpine with a mission to support real work-life balance and fuel all sorts of adventures through thoughtfully-crafted goods and meaningful repairs.
5% of sales from original artwork and prints goes to support organizations working for environmental justice. Some of these include The Gwich'in Steering Committee, Cloud City Farm, and the Quivira Coalition.
While Sew Alpine is still very small, there are future plans to hire several employees and offer them real living wages and meaningful benefits. These positions will include paid training and will have flexible schedules, to accommodate other life needs. There are also plans to set the standard that full-time positions will work 4 days per week.
Sew Alpine products are made with durable materials and designed to last a long time. 99% of all materials used in Sew Alpine products are sourced from independent US distributors and most are manufactured in the USA. Products are laid out on fabric in such a way as to minimize waste, all scraps are saved and used for future projects. 90% of thread used is made from recycled materials.
Sew Alpine also repairs gear, clothing, and other goods in an effort to reduce the amount of stuff we all produce and breathe new life into the stuff we already have.
